“Of
all those vulnerable to AIDS in the world, no single group is more at risk
than women.”
In 1997, 41 percent of people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide were women. In 2000, 47 percent were women. Today, that figure has reached 50 percent—and in Sub-Saharan Africa, home to 70 percent of people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide, 57 percent of adults infected with HIV are women. Unless we work together to address the reasons women are so disproportionately vulnerable to this epidemic, these numbers will continue to grow. Please join us on World AIDS Day 2003 for a screening of A Closer Walk (Robert Bilheimer/2003/84 min./35mm), the first feature-length documentary on the global HIV/AIDS epidemic: a film about AIDS in the world, and a story about the way the world is.
