Dearest Friends:

As a result of the recent tragic events in our city, please be advised that SALAAM has postponed all upcoming events until further notice.  Check your email and our website for updates.

We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the victims and their families of this mindless act of terrorism.  The entire planet is mourning and the solution is NOT violence or hate!  Many folks have used email to express and share stories, poems, and essays, in order to help in the healing process.  In memory of those lives that have been lost and the efforts of the many heroes dedicated to the task of rescuing the lives of those still trapped in the rubble, SALAAM will be accepting submissions to be included in a special link on our website.  Please submit poems, essays, and any thoughts you may have to: submissions@salaamtheatre.org

If you are not a member of our SALAAM email list, please take the opportunity to sign up now!

There are many words of wisdom from SALAAM friends.  Asha witnessed the event firsthand and is safe but puts this tragedy in perspective - "The real threats to our world are what we are doing to our environment, global warming, the sexual exploitation and violence of women and children that perpetuate cycles of poverty and the communication of infectious disease across millions of people in countries less fortunate than ours.  Every day in the world, people are being sent to their deaths in violent explosions that we cannot hear and whose dust we cannot taste on our tongues, or flush out with our eyes."   Shakti Project sister, Bhaswati comforted me with these words, "Like Kalighat or Varanasi (Kashi) near the funeral pyres, I realized that the smell we were taking in last night was not just concrete and construction materials, but ashes of burned, crushed bodies. We were taking the remains of those human lives and bodies into our own selves and being changed forever.  Perhaps the reason why we are crying so helplessly and unexplainably from time to time is that we ARE literally taking in what those people went through."

Every moment of love and compassion helps heal the wounds.  Take time to speak with family, friends, neighbors, kids, and the elderly, everyone...  Take good care of yourselves and each other.

Peace, Much Love, Prayers and Blessings...

"We are aware that all generations of our ancestors
and all future generations are present in us.
We are aware of the expectations that our ancestors,
our children and their children have of us.
We are aware that our joy, peace, freedom, and
harmony are the joy, peace freedom and harmony
of our ancestors, our children, and their children.
We are aware that understanding is
the very foundation of love.
We are aware that blaming and arguing never help us
and only create a wider gap between us, that only
understanding, trust and love can help us change and grow."
