Mother Nature Takes Control - February 17, 2003 Sweet Snowy Morning Greetings SALAAMers, Hope you all survived the Peace Rallies around the world and hats off (well maybe not in these frigid cold temperatures) to all of us who braved the chill and shared the warmth of fellow peace-loving folks. Now moving from my PowerPuff Girl duties (fighting crime and the forces of evil - *smile*) to taking care of my baby, SALAAM and the event scheduled for today. I waited and hoped all weekend that perhaps the weather reports were wrong or that the snow would be delayed BUT Mama Nature made her decision and that's that! SO, today's SALAAM 3rd Mondays (S3M) - HEARTS ON SALE - will be postponed to a future date (still to be confirmed). In the meanwhile, please stay warm, take care of yourselves and those around you. Remember to check on your elderly neighbors and those that might have a difficult time dealing with these BLIZZARDY conditions. It's crazy! My folks were warning me that it was going to be bad but looking out my window now, I realize how long it's been since I remember experiencing this much of a snow storm... While I have your attention, I'd like to take this opportunity to invite you all to our upcoming Exclusive Advanced Screening of Gurinder Chada's BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM. Together with Fox Searchlight Pictures, SALAAM Theatre is presenting this FREE (minimum suggested donation $10) screening on Wednesday, February 26th at 7PM. Be sure to arrive at LEAST 15 minutes before the movie starts to get good seats. We'll begin checking people in at 6:30PM so the sooner you get there, the better! I understand there are pirated/bootleg copies of the movie available but understand that movie piracy is damaging to the artist, the film company and you, the moviegoer! Support the artists' vision by seeing the movie in a movie theater! If you are one of our treasured
Jewels
of SALAAM, you will receive a special VIP checkin.
You'll have a separate VIP checkin and a reserved section of seats. To become a JEWEL, just make your annual contribution of $25 or more to SALAAM Theatre and email your name to jewel@SALAAMtheatre.org for your confirmation. If you are already a JEWEL, please accept my humble thanks and know that your annual contribution, helps allow SALAAM continue its mission without compromise. Aside from that, I look forward to rescheduling today's event (apologies to the dedicated artists who were so excited to perform and the volunteers). If you are really in the mood to troop out in NYC today, you should check out Poems Not Fit For The White House, scheduled to take place this evening at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall at 7:30PM. Call ahead of time for details and to see if it's still happening: 212-721-6500 - http://www.lincolncenter.org Finally, please support the actions being taken this week by the folks organizing the NATIONAL DAY OF SOLIDARITY WITH MUSLIM, ARAB AND SOUTH ASIAN IMMIGRANTS on February 20th. The folks from SAPBR were scheduled to be tonight's Community Corner to share another avenue for people to voice their opposition and build public support against the special registrations. SALAAM endorses and supports this very important action and encourages you all to check out the info at http://www.bluetriangle.org Sending you a big snowflake
