Gershwin Hotel Stages Pop Art Festival

The Gershwin Hotel is presenting New York India Pop from February 5-8, 2009.  The cultural event aims to showcase the vibrancy of pop art in an emerging
market while also unveiling the new Kama Sutra Suite at the Gershwin Hotel.  Over 20 artists from India and the US are participating in the event.

Indie-rock group, Alms for Shanti headed by Uday Benegal, and a dance performance by Sonalee Vyas Naach Sensation Dance Company will kick off the
celebration.  The art exhibition includes James Banta, Neil Chowdhury and Asha Ganpat, while artists (Tara Misra, Kevin Robinson and Asha Ganpat) add their
unique mark to the new Kama Sutra suite in the hotel. On Friday (8pm-10pm) at the Punjabi Punchlines Evening, comedians Dan Nainan, Vidur Kapur and Anu
Kalra will judge their peers.  On Saturday (7-10pm), Golden Globe winner Mira Nair will present her movie, Kama Sutra, The Tale Of Love.  The New York City
Bhangra Club dancers with DJ Troy and Dhol player Madan Madi will also perform.  Photographer Herb Asherman will be taking portraits during the festivities. The
portraits exhibition will take place during the summer with the participation of Harshavardhan Patil.

The Gershwin Hotel has had a long association with pop art.  The hotel's artist-in-residence program has assisted over 60 artists from around the world.  Some of
the more famous artists include Andy Warhol's Factory People.  In 2007, Suzanne Tremblay, owner of the Gershwin, organized a reunion for these superstars
including Ultraviolet, Lou Reed, Eric Anderson, Mary Woronof, Susan Bond, Taylor Mead and Brigit Berlin.

In addition to serving as an homage to pop art, The Gershwin Hotel displays one of the most unique facades in the city and possibly the world, designed by Finnish
artist Stefan Linfors.  The privately owned hotel remains a staple in the New York City arts, entertainment and fashion landscape.  USA Today's Kurt Wilson calls it
an "artsy, colorful property that attracts many young customers."

In the Gershwin's tradition of supporting pop art, Suzanne is thrilled to present New York India Pop.

Please join us for this exciting festival in February.
