Struggles from the past reflect our present struggles for peace.

excerpts from Aristophanes'
Lysistrata: A Woman's Translation
by Drue Robinson Hagan
This comedy by Greek dramatist Aristophanes (c.447 - c. 385 b.c.e.), tells the story of a group of women from opposing states who unite to end the Peloponnesian War.  After matronly stormtroopers take over the building where public funds are kept, the women rise to end the war by withholding sex from their mates -- Until, desperate for intimacy, the men finally agree to lay down their swords and see their way to achieving diplomatic peace.

We look forward to seeing you!!!  THAW Zindabad (translates to mean "Long Live THAW- Theaters Against War).  THAW is a group of New York based theater artists alarmed by the threat of war on Iraq and the escalating attack on civil liberties at home.  THAW seeks to encourage the growth of a pro-peace culture.  On Sunday, March 2nd, 2003, THAW is asking each and every theater in New York to make a public statement opposing the war. Pro-peace statements will range from the all-out pro-peace performance events, teach-ins, peace parties and more.   THAW is aiming to enlist hundreds of theaters and theater artists in all five boroughs to create a gesture - from subtle to grand - that promotes peace and defends our essential American freedoms. http://www.thawaction.org

On Monday, March 3rd, 2003, the first-ever world-wide theatrical event for peace will happen in a city near you. Don't miss this unique opportunity to stand up for peace in your community by joining us for SALAAM Lysistrata.  As one of the members of the Lysistrata Project, we join participants from a wide variety of backgrounds and views who all believe the Bush Administration's rush to war on Iraq is a bad idea.  And we're taking tangible action by THINKING GLOBALLY, ACTING LOCALLY.   http://www.lysistrataproject.com

We must unite.  Wherever you are, debate and discuss and speak out against injustices everywhere!

*donations are encouraged but nobody will be turned away due to lack of funds.  if you'd like to support by making a donation to help cover our expenses including copies of the script, programs, fliers and rehearsal spaces, please contact citygirl@salaamtheatre.org directly.

Peace, Paz, Paix, Shanti, Shalom and SALAAM.
