SALAAM 3rd Mondays
presents our
Theater of the Oppressed
Workshop Two
With Kayhan Irani

7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

This SALAAM 3rd Mondays series of three workshops offers an intensive, small group introduction to Theater of the Oppressed techniques and exercises developed by Brazilian director, popular educator and Workers Party activist Augusto Boal.  Recognize and confront internalized forms of oppression, and explore power relations and collective solutions to concrete problems. Boal's interactive approach to theatrical _expression emphasizes physical dialogues, non-verbal imagery, consensus-building and problem-solving processes, and techniques for developing awareness of both external and internalized forms of oppression.

This workshop is the final in a series of three workshops conducted by Kayhan Irani, SALAAM Theatre company member.  Although each workshop can be taken individually, each will be influenced by what has come before.

Tuition per workshop: $40
Tuition for all 3 workshops: $100
(January 19th, February 16th, March 15th - 2004)

Class size is limited to 25 students. Pre-registration is required.

The SALAAM 3rd Mondays performance series is held monthly and in 2004 shall run from April to December.  During the first three months of each year, SALAAM 3rd Mondays will offer an exclusive workshop series focusing on the relationship between arts and activism.  In 2004, KAYHAN IRANI will lead participants in Theater of the Oppressed techniques and exercises.  This is a hands-on workshop.  You will be asked to participate in the exercises and share your experiences.
