FIRES (monologue one)
with
actor, Laksh Singh
directed
by Geeta Citygirl
A
man confesses that he has 'stamped out' countless 'hidden fires' - human
lives that are less than human to him, merely faceless threats to his own
security - and then finds himself on the receiving end of the same ruthless
treatment. Taken from a series of five, powerful, hard-hitting monologues
in the the playwright tackles head-on issues of violence, intolerance of
others, narrow concepts of community and nation, each with a twist that
lifts it into the realm of real drama.

The
title of this month's salon TRUTHS AND MYTH was inspired by an introduction
to a Thanksgiving Essay "Teaching About Thanksgiving" written by Chuck
Larsen (Tacoma, WA - September, 1986). Chuck Larsen knows of
what he speaks. As a public school teacher, a historian, and an American
of Indian (Native/Indigenous) heritage, Larsen has always had a difficult
time teaching about the Thanksgiving holiday.
"I
propose that there may be a good deal that many of us do not know about
our Thanksgiving holiday and also about the 'First Thanksgiving' story,"
says Chuck Larsen in the introduction to Teaching About Thanksgiving. "I
also propose that what most of us have learned about the Pilgrims and the
Indians who were at the first Thanksgiving at Plymouth Plantation is only
part of the truth. When you build a lesson on only half of the information,
then you are not teaching the whole truth."
