War
on Iraq! Not In Our Name!
NOT IN OUR NAME! There are special times when what we do, each of us, can make a difference for our future. Monday, January 27 is one of those days. The eyes of the world will be on the UN on Monday when Hans Blix will turn in the inspections report on Iraq. And on the next day, Bush will deliver his State of the Union address. No matter what the UN or Bush say, the people do not want this war, and we will say so on Monday, January 27, 2003. There will be a major demonstration at the UN at 4:00pm, and that morning the Not In Our Name Statement of Conscience statement will be re-published in the NY Times as a two-page spread, with a call to act on Monday against this war. At the 4:00pm demonstration, there will be a joint reading of the statement by signers. Some of the signers who will read the statement include (so far): film/theater artists Andre Gregory, Peter Gerety, Ellen McLaughlin, and Kathleen Chalfant; writers Rose Styron, Vivian Gornick, Malachy McCourt, Nora Eisenberg; curators Max Kozloff and Nina Felshin, writer and ex-cop Serpico; artist Joyce Kozloff. Also speaking at the rally: Jesuit Priest Simon Harak who has traveled to Iraq many times, attorneys Michael Ratner (the head of Center for Constitutional Rights) and Lynne Stewart (lawyer under indictment by Ashcroft). Over 6000 members of the press are officially signed up to be at the UN on Monday. The world needs to hear from the people who want to stop all this madness of war and repression, who say NOT IN OUR NAME. This is our chance. Also, there is a nationwide call for Monday January 27 from Not In Our Name: From Noon to 1:00pm there will be an HOUR OF RESISTANCE: Wherever you are, debate and discuss and show your opposition to this war!
